Illinois CCL Process

Understand the Illinois CCL Training Path

The Illinois CCL process should be handled carefully. Astro Tactical helps students understand the training path, prepare for class, complete required instruction, and use official ISP resources for the state application process.

Submitting a class request or attending class does not guarantee a certificate, class seat, Illinois CCL approval, or any government outcome. Astro Tactical confirms class spots directly, and ISP controls the state application process.

Official Sources

Use official state resources for legal and application details.

This page is general process information only. It is not legal advice. Students should review official ISP resources and speak with qualified counsel for legal questions.

Process Overview

Training is one step in a larger state process.

The basic path is simple: choose the right class, attend training, complete qualification, receive a certificate only if course and qualification requirements are met, then apply through ISP using official state resources.

1

Choose the Right Class

New applicant, renewal applicant, and private training students each need a different path.

2

Attend Training

Arrive prepared, follow safety instructions, and participate responsibly.

3

Complete Qualification

Qualification is a safety and responsibility checkpoint, not a formality.

4

Receive Certificate

Completion documentation is issued only if course and qualification requirements are met.

5

Apply Through ISP

ISP controls the state application process and final government outcome.

1

Choose the right class

Law says

Illinois CCL requirements are governed by the Firearm Concealed Carry Act, 430 ILCS 66, and administered through the Illinois State Police. ISP lists training and application information on its official CCL page.

Astro Tactical policy

Students who do not currently hold an Illinois Concealed Carry License should request the 16-Hour Illinois CCL Class. Current Illinois CCL holders preparing to renew should request the 3-Hour Illinois CCL Renewal. Students who want skill development outside the licensing process should request Private Training.

Plain-English explanation

Start with the class that matches your status. If you are unsure, contact Astro Tactical before submitting a request. The website form starts the conversation; it does not create a confirmed booking.

2

Attend training

Law says

ISP describes training requirements and application materials on its CCL page. Students should use official ISP resources for current application instructions and requirements.

Astro Tactical policy

Astro Tactical expects students to arrive prepared, follow safety instructions, participate responsibly, and respect the seriousness of the CCL process. A confirmed class spot is required before attending.

Plain-English explanation

Training is more than sitting in a room. Students should be ready to learn safety, responsibility, mindset, legal responsibilities, and practical handling expectations.

3

Complete qualification

Law says

For a new Illinois CCL license, 430 ILCS 66/75 requires proof of certification by a certified instructor that the applicant passed a live-fire exercise with a concealable firearm. The live-fire exercise consists of a minimum of 30 rounds: 10 rounds from 5 yards, 10 rounds from 7 yards, and 10 rounds from 10 yards at an ISP-approved B-27 silhouette target. The statute also says a certificate should not be issued if a student fails to follow instructor orders, handles a firearm in a dangerous manner, or fails to hit the target with 70% of the rounds fired.

Astro Tactical policy

Students must follow range safety rules and complete the qualification portion according to instructor direction. Unsafe conduct, failure to follow instructions, or failure to meet course requirements can affect completion.

Plain-English explanation

Qualification is a required part of the class experience. Students should treat it as a safety and responsibility checkpoint, not a formality.

4

Receive a certificate if requirements are met

Law says

ISP states that applicants upload an electronic copy of training certificate materials during the application process. The certificate supports the application process, but it does not control the final government decision.

Astro Tactical policy

Astro Tactical issues completion documentation only when the student completes the course and qualification requirements. Attendance alone does not guarantee a certificate.

Plain-English explanation

A certificate means the student completed the required class work under Astro Tactical’s course standards. It does not guarantee Illinois CCL approval.

5

Apply through ISP

Law says

The Illinois State Police controls the CCL application process. Students should use the official ISP CCL page and ISP application portal for current instructions.

Astro Tactical policy

Astro Tactical provides training and general process guidance. Astro Tactical does not submit the state application for students, decide eligibility, or guarantee approval.

Plain-English explanation

After class completion, students are responsible for reviewing official ISP instructions, preparing their own application materials, and submitting through the proper ISP process.

Important Cautions

Do not treat the website form as the final step.

  • This page is general process information, not legal advice.
  • Astro Tactical does not guarantee a class seat until it confirms directly.
  • Attending class does not automatically guarantee a certificate.
  • A certificate does not guarantee Illinois CCL approval.
  • Use official ISP resources for current state application instructions.
  • Do not submit FOID, ID, SSN, payment information, birthdate, firearm serial numbers, certificates, CCL numbers, license uploads, or sensitive documents through public website forms.

Next Step

Request the class that matches your status.

If you are a new Illinois CCL applicant, start with the 16-Hour Illinois CCL Class. If you already hold an Illinois CCL and need renewal training, request the 3-Hour Renewal. If you are unsure, contact Astro Tactical before submitting a class request.
